So my boat is being with out use since last year, i keep turning it on weekly, and keep it on for few minutes and the engine runs great... The boat is a rinker fiesta vee 266 1997, and the engine is a Mercruiser 5.0. So i know i have to change the oil since is being a year since i bought it and never changed anything on it... So my first question is how do i change the oil?? i keep seeying this pumps: http://www.amazon.com/Stearns-Quick...e=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1274440141&sr=8-2 do this pumps remove and put the new oil back inside the engine???

Also besides changing the oil what else should i do before i take the boat to the water again

Thanks

I'd stay away from those cheap, electric pumps. Most of them are junk. I use a unit similar to this and it works great. http://cgi.ebay.com/Pela-650-Oil-Ch...tem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2eacc61a12
Just make sure the oil is warm, it'll pump out much faster. You should have a filler on one of your valve covers; either a cap, or maybe have to pull off a breather.

Check the adults only section for a comprehensive list of things to do to summerize your boat.

We just bought the moeller extractor and its amazing. It will pump 5 quarts out of a warm engine in around 5 minutes easily. Pump it up 15 or so times and just let it suck it all out. Easy to pour the old oil out of the unit too.

West Marine has a no brand extractor thats the same price as the 4L moeller but I still went with the 4L moeller. Gotta stop and pour the oil out if you doing a 5 quart engine but thats no big deal. Changed the oil in 3 of our volvo engines this past weekend and couldnt be happier.

I hope you winterized the engine last fall. You said you started it every week. If you had no water to the drive, you have ruined the water pump impeller. In any case, I would replace the impeller, change the oil, and replace the gear oil in the drive. If you have to ask how to change the motor oil, then you should get a manual or some one with experience to help you, (live). At the first of this site there is all kinds of help info. (Stickey)
