Gas tank replacement question

Hey guys I'm needing to replace my old rusted steel fuel tank. It's an 18 gallon tank that sits undeneath my rear starboard seat, my two questions are this:

1) I'm thinking of replacing it w/ a polyethylene tank. Now this tank is called a below deck tank. Would this work for me?

2) I've found a 27 gallon tank, same material as above, just longer but would fit. Do you guys think there would be any issues w/ the added weight of gas?

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question but I am a NOOB & this is my first redo project.

Yep,if it is built in and covered, that is the right type. As far as extra weight, that would add about 75 lbs, so you can make a guess from there.

Well see that's thing, the tank that's there now isn't fastened down. It's just under the seat & splash guard right behind the green curtain looking thing in the image http://img190.imageshack.us/i/37485830.jpg/. I just didn't know if I could replace it w/ the plastic tank being as it's really above deck but is covered. Sorry if that didn't make sense just don't know of another way to explain it.
