heck yea. have the sender send the TEXT as an email.

instead of sending a text to the phone number, send it to an email address.

and then, you just reply via FREE EMAIL on the BB data plan, to the wireless address.

I send free emails to texts, heck I don't even have a text plan, I just use data.

Don't let the vendors get u... ALL text from ANY cell company can be directed by the sender to a full blown email address. Do not accept
them telling you different.

We've been doing that for 6 years now on At&t...

my $0.02....

For many reasons... if someone needs info and I look it up for them, I can text/email it to them, and they will still have that info later when they need it, such as a spark plug range or part number, phone number, address, etc.

Many times, I don't want to have a conversation, or the other person may not have time for a convo becaus ethey're at work, and sending a short blip is great; call me when you can, I'll be off work at 5, or don't forget we have plans tonite.

It's also great for a short msg to the s/o- wife or girlfriend, just to say hello, i love you, i miss you, etc. It'll make them smile in the middle of an otherwise busy day.

BTW, I use Google Voice. I love it for voice and free SMS texting. The second phone number is SO cool because if you chan ge carriers, your phone breaks, or is shut off, you can switch your Google Voice number online to ANY other phone number, so your calls will still get through. And that's GREAT when you're job hunting, because you can easily control WHERE those calls will go, and change it as often as you like.

Aside from that....

Email to SMS Gateway is defined by this link

Which means an SMS(text) message is sent through software which redirects it to email(SMTP) which is recieved by the email recipient free.

They then respond and send it back through the the SMS to Email protocol.

Here is a basic list of the phone providers and how to do it....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMS_gateway#Carrier-Provided_SMS_to_E-Mail_Gateways

.....oooor.....

Just follow my first reply and have a fun time doing it.. :)

Which? the person who does not have EMAIL? that's ok.. cuz theirs is SMS.

The EMAIL receiver gets his email, replies to it, and it gets resent thru the
SMTP(email) to SMS(phone/txt)... it's really that simple.

As I recall, links are added to your menu like SMS TEXT and then GOOGLE VOICE TEXT or something like that.

The part I like best about Google Voice is the extra phone number. If your cell gets wet, lost, account canceled, or whatever, you can go online and route that Google Voice number to a different phone. It's a very convenient feature.

You can also have the GV number in a different area code- I do that to make it easier to look for a job in Tampa- they're more likely to hire me when they don't know I live 50 miles away.

They both ring to the same phone. You can have your caller ID show your Google Voice number so you know it's coming in there, or you can have it show the caller's number.

Other than that, it's totally transparent on your end, the phone rings and you answer it. No additional charges or anything.
