i got a 78 johnson 140 ran good last year when i put it away last year for the winter went to get it running this year it ran for a bit then shut down know it wont start has spark and fuel new gas even if you dont push choke in it just spins over dont even sound like it wants to start you push in choke it will pop threw the exhaust once maybe twice thats it not sure where to start here it started on old fuel from last year its been drained and new put in

Check compression, check spark with spark plugs removed. If you have both in good condition....... remove, clean, and rebuld the carburetors.

You might also try flushing the float bowls in case you have water or sediment in them.

Take the float bowl drain plugs out one at a time and squeeze the primer bulb. This will usually clear the water that otherwise would stay at the bottom of the bowls.

Be sure (check visually by removing the air silencer cover) that your choke plates are fully closed while cranking for your cold startup, and have your warm-up lever raised so that the timing is advanced.

You need 300 RPM to fire that engine properly, so have your battery fully charged and the connections cleaned.
