Hey guys i got a 94 125 the other day the overheat warning came on and it wasn't peeing out the side. Today replaced the impeller and when putting the lower unit back up some how messed up the alignment. Took it out in forward and when we put it back on and thought we had it when I went to start it it was in gear. I have searched this and had a hard time finding exactly the answer. If anyone can explain this clearly to me on how to get this back lined up I would appreciate it. Also one more quick question should water come out of the pee hole with the muffs on or does the motor have to be running to pressurize it. thanks

Re: Impeller change-now stuck in forward

You have to pull the lower unit off again to re-align the shifter shaft to fix your fwd/neutral/reverse problem. Pull it with your contols in neutral, rotate the shift rod and when you have it aligned correctly, the prop will spin in both directions when the lower unit is installed correctly. As far as the engine peeing with the muffs, it should pee after a 15-20 seconds but may not be a strong stream until the boat is in the water. The water pump has to pump all the way up the lower unit and in the engine with the muffs, and it can pump a lot stronger when the boat is in the water. Make sure your intake tube seals are good when you bolt the lower unit back on. Good luck, keep us updated.

Re: Impeller change-now stuck in forward

What happens is the way the LU shifts to change gears is by being turned by the rod coming from your controls. To shift it litterally turns only 15 degrees maybe? So you can easy mess this up. To fix it take the LU off and the spin the little splined shaft towards the bow of the boat until you hear the LU click. Sometimes you can hear sometimes it is the point where it becomes really hard to turn and it will "pop" into nuetral. And keep checking that your can spin prop in both directions and the alingment of the gear shifter and the rod coming from the controls.

Thanks for the replies guys I thought I had it figured from what I read but messed with it and couldn't get it to go in neutral kept getting stuck in forward. Finally just took it in this morning hopefully it's not to much.
