89 5.0l mercruier won't start after winterization

Hey all. here is the problem, I have a 89, 5liter alapha one drive. this is the first year i have had a problem starting it after the winter. I did notice a spark arching from the coil post to the coil.. Do you think the coil is bad? I had it running for a few minutes, then it died, and was unable to restart..
This is a engine that is usually a 2 pump and start. any suggestions would e great,.

replace the coil you do not want acrhing it will cause an exposion if fuel fumes vapours are present. and that aching will effect spark going threw the coil wire.

have you checked to see if your getting fuel

Normally, coils only start arch when there is high resistnce in the plug wires or spark plugs. The arching usually causes a crack to develop in the coil tower. Check your plug wires and put in some new spark plugs before trying a new coil, or you could end up damaging another coil. Check your coil closely, it may not be cracked yet.

Yes, I am geting fuel, and I have had a minor fire, due to some starting fluid and the arching.. easily handled.. thankfully..

NEVER, EVER USE STARTING FLUID IN A BOAT!! If it doesnt fire on fuel, there is something wrong. 9x out of ten its an ignition related condition, but fuel delivery could also be a problem. Please just put a lil gas, and I mean a LITTLE gas, FRESH FUEL, in the carb, and turn the key. If it doesnt fire..my uneducated guess it is in the ignition (spark plug wires, etc) system.

anyone know the resistence of the wires? what the ohms shuld be in a respectable working wire?

Just do a FULL tune up which means replacing the plug wires.

+1 New plugs, wires, cap and rotor and check/reset timing.
