I have wanted to buy a boat for the longest time and think my wife is finally going to give me the okay. I am looking for a pleasure cruiser to spend time with my wife, little girl, and extended family and friends. I am thinking about a new 2008 maxum boats 2500se. I can get it fully loaded with all the options, plus, gps, and radio, tax, and bottom paint for 50,000. Is it worth it? I don't want to make a big mistake on my first boat purchase. I thank you for you feedback.

I bought a new 2008 leftover last august. Much smaller model so can't help much with your price. Can say I am very pleased with my maxum and besides an issue with the stereo, have had no problems whatsoever. Did you go to the maxum boat website and ""build it" on line to see what MSRP is? You should be getting it for WELL below that number and check to make sure if maxum is giving a rebate too (I got one). Just do your research, check other dealers and NEGOTIATE, NEGOTIATE. You should get a great deal on a 2008 in 2010 on a discontinued brand. Don't worry about it being discontinued either...Brunswick is backing the warranty, etc. Hope this helps a bit and good luck!

We bought a leftover maxum 2600se in Oct, 2007. Havent had many problems with it, and any problems that we did have were promptly addressed and corrected by the dealer. So that brings to mind a couple of things, make sure you have a reputable dealer that will honor the warranties. and since the boat has been sitting a couple of years it will pay to have a surveyor look it over for you. Also make it subject to a sea trial.
As far as price goes, you can search yachtworld.com, and you'll get an idea of what that boat and comparable boats are going for.
If you are new to boating, take a boating safety course, they are invaluable.
GO to USPS.org for a course near you.

Oh yeah, one last thing, we love our maxum...good luck!

I don't have any experience with Maxum boats, but for what it's worth, they are the lowest rated manufacturer at JD Power in the 16-19 ft. runabout category. They aren't listed in the large runabout category for some reason. I've always thought they looked pretty cool, but apparently some people have issues with them.
