Bad Gimbal bearing

My gimbal bearing is bad, had water in bellows. I replaced all of the bellows last spring, my question is how does the outdrive seal to the bell housing to keep water out of the drive shaft bellows? Mercruiser has a oring seal around the shift cable, remote gear lube port and water intake port but nothing around the drive shaft area. I have not yet removed the bellows to see if it had a rub through. I have changed the bellows before without a problem so not sure how the water got in and how it is sealed between the bell housing and drive.
I made a nice puller to remove the gimbal bearing that worked great but want to make sure I get everything sealed good before dropping boat back into water. Another thing, water never came into bilge even though water was in bellows.

Thanks in advance

Water might not get into the bilge if the bearing, was, like mine, sealed...Water could exist in the bellows but not come inside. Just did my bearing today!

I'm wanting to prevent the same problem, so wondering how the out drive keeps the water out of the drive shaft bellows since there is no gasket between the bell housing and drive.

They don't show a gasket in any parts break downs only the o-rings. The sites say no paper gasket used on the Bravo drives.

This is a 1992 Bravo if that matters. I know the old mercruisers had a gasket.

Do you have a part number for the gasket?
