Driveshaft differences

I found out while having both drives off this year my driveshafts are different. One has 2 o-rings, one has three. Looking at exploded views of Alpha 1 Gen 1's, it appears they had 2 o-rings from the factory, and looks like replacement driveshafts have 3.
So I'm assuming one of my driveshafts has been replaced before.
I tried downloading and checking the drive identification file to see if it had info, but it is a dead link.

What is the purpose of the 3rd o-ring?

That 3rd ring is for use with the later engine coupler that has a snout on it and is sealed to keep grease in. That coupler also has a zerk for greasing the splines. However, that shaft will work with older style couplers fine.

Thanks for the info! Guess I could have left that o-ring off then, good info for next year!
