motor runs good at idle speed thru about 1/2 throttle. then it starts spurting and never reaches full throttle. Carb has been rebuilt with new plugs, points, and everthing. put it in nuetrul and the motor will run full throttle but then when you put in forward it starts spitting and spurting at full throttle. does anyone know what is wrong with it.

I just did the same work to my 9.5 and it was doing that until I got the fuel mixture dialed in.

thanks captain hook. what do you mean by the fuel mixture. are you talking about the fuel oil ratio or the lean rich adjustment on the front of the motor.

Did you remove the high speed jet when you cleaned your carb.? If not you should re-do the carb. cleaning. Best of luck. Rick.

Where is the highspeed jet located. i didn't do the work but someone else did. I'm trying to do it now so it doesn't cost me more money.

I mean the lean/rich adjustment. If the carb was rebuilt this is most likely outta wack. I had to take knob off of mine and adjust it at the carb as it needed multiple turns to get back in the right range.

The motor seems to run better when i take the motor cover off. i am running it in a barrel. does this mean i am getting exhaust back into the motor chamber and not enough air or what. any one know.

That is common when running a 9.5 in a barrel. It sits very close to it's own exhaust. I would not worry unless you find it makes a difference when your on the water. Rick.

And good luck trying to search for any remedy. I hace a 9.5 and a 9.9 and the search feature here does not like those numbers. So you have to sift through hundreds of posts. If you get the chance try running it on the water without the hood. If it runs the exhaust gasket is probably bad. Also my 9.5 was finicky enough that I had to set the air/fuel with the hood on.

Thanks. I haven't tried it on the water with the hood off but i will. It will run about half throttle on the water with the hood on then sounds like it bogs down. I dont know if its not getting enough fuel or maybe to much. Do you think it might be dropping a cylinder when put under a load. will run full throttle when in nuetruel.

Never run it full throttle in neutral. It needs to be under load. You could check for spark. Even try cleaning your points and make sure they are set just right to .020. Rick.
