How do you determine the correct weight capicity to buy? Let's assume the boat, motor & trailer weigh 3,200 lbs. Would 1,600 lb springs do the trick or is there some safety factor involved? One would assume the safety factor to be built into the springs?

2400lbs springs for a total of 4800lbs would be ok. When you add gears and gas, your boat could be near 4000lbs.

Re: When buying new leaf springs

From the manufacturer the dry weight of my boat is 2,350 lbs. I think a 115 Johnson is around 350 lbs. My trailer registration says 500 lbs, I'm sure this is just a guess. A full gas tank would be around 300 lbs. Battery, life jackets, Ice chest fishing gear 200 lbs.

The springs I was looking at were 1,800 lbs guess I might go with a little bigger ones.
