I read a previous post, had great pics and info on this. The leak seems to be from the back of the block. I see from the pic there is a large freeze plug, and i realize it could be cracked. The engine starts and runs fine, but i do hear a little rattle from the flywheel area. 1- could this rattle be debris from the plug popping out or busting. 2- Is there anyway to slide the outdrive and bellhousing back, remove flywheel and replace plug- without removal of engine. 3- Would it actually be easier to just pull the motor.
engine is 3.0 mercruiser, with the Alpha 1 outdrive

1 pull the drive
2 pull the motor
You will need the proper manual from the Adults Only section too.

Does anyone know where these pics are. I've been trying to find a view of the back end of the 3.0 L engine (without the cover etc.) but can't see one in any of the manuals I have access to.

Thanks Fishermark, just what I was looking for.

I haven't used my boat yet this season but when I ran it on the muffs just now, I noticed what looked like some water leakage at the back of the block. It stopped later but I am concerned about the strength of the antifreeze I used last winter because it looked a little dilute when I drained it, although the oil is fine and none of the other core plugs show signs of ice pressure.

Anyway, I guess now I know what I may be in for.

Yes these pics were great, completely convinced me of what i needed to do...which by the way was done -- motor and outdive pulled, freezeplug replaced. All assembled and running again...now water tested yet-- but thanks for help.
