Hello to all!
I am considering buying a 16' open bow with a Mercruiser 140 in it. I am able to get the boat for $250 because the block is cracked across the cylinders. I already have in my possession a Buick LG3 3800 motor with low miles. I was wondering if someone out there knew what it would take to make the LG3 into a marine motor ( originally came out of a Buick Century), and what I would need to do in order to make this motor fit in place of the Mercury 140 motor. Though I am new to the boating world (this will be my first boat), I am very fluent with automotive motors, welding, and some custom fabrication. I would just like to know how practical this swap would be. PLEASE HELP!!

Not sure if this is the same job as it is a different vintage of motor but look here

I have a 1984ish GM 3.8 liter (229 cid) in my boat. It's a mercruiser, not an OMC. If you have the same block as me (which I'm guessing you don't) there are parts available to do the swap.

Your best bet is to replace the 4 cylinder with another similar 4 cylinder. This way you can swap all the marine specific parts. Also the motor mounts will work. And also the outdrive is geared for a 4 cylinder.

Just my opinion, as I have never actually done a swap like this before.
