Mercruiser Foot Problems

We have a 96, 300hp, Mercruiser i/o. Last year it got a brand new foot, all new seals, etc... This year when we brought it out to get it ready for summer we noticed that the foot had oil leaking from it. We asked someone around here and they said it may have a self lubing foot??? We didn't think that sounded right, so we were wondering if anyone had different suggestions. Surely the seals haven't gone bad already. Thank you in advance for any replies...

Welcome to Iboats.

You don't say wether you have an alpha or a bravo, but either way, the drives should not leak. You need to pull the prop and have a look at the propshaft seals and see if they are leaking or if your getting engine oil through the exhaust hub.

If the propshaft has ever eaten fishing line, seals will die in very short order, new or not.
