Painting deck? Or carpet.

On my budget rebuild. I'm almost ready to cover the deck of the boat.

I used Polyester resin to cover the seats and deck.
marine carpet is expensive.
So I was either thinking on covering the deck with standard indoor/outdoor carpeting.

Or If I paint the deck and seat, what can I use to paint it with? (keep in mind budget rebuild here)

The guy at the paint store said 123 primer, then the porch and paint laytex paint. He said standard rustolium will crack and chip with the heat and cool.

Thoughts?

If you do porch/floor, do oil. Much tougher.

Gelcoat from UScomposites is only $40/gal, and you can roll it on for a matte finish. Tougher than any paint too.

I'm about to do the deck on my own boat. Home Depot has the Glidden Polyurethane Oil Gloss Porch and Patio paint for $22 a gallon, and they will paint match it if you want a fancy color. In the same isle you can buy a bag of Behr traction additive so its not slippery. If you are painting over fresh fiberglass, then the only prep work is to scuff it up with 80-grit and clean. You prime with the product itself. second coat after 24 hrs.

I just installed carpet on my deck from Home Depot pretty cheap stuff and if you hit their website they deal in a bit higher grade marine carpet but still cheap.

I just went with indoor outdoor from the store and it looks decent.
