1988 50 hp force

can anyone tell me how much oil i should put in the lower unit i drained it to check some stuff out and what kind i should run

You need to open the vent plug while filling oil from the drain plug. When the fluid starts to come out of the vent plug then that's enough. I have a '85 50HP also and I use 75/90 weight gear oil.
