Minn Kota - water in bottom end

Just installed a new Traxxis 40 and got to use it a few times. Never had an electric before. Couldn't be happier with the performance.

When I'm done, naturally I tilt it up then start the main engine on. When I get home I lower the Traxxis into the running position and some water always comes out the botttom. (just like when you lower a gas OB)

Is that normal?

Its probably just water trapped in the hollow area behind the prop. Next time just take the prop off before lowering it to verify.

bhile's probably right, but do make sure that water is not getting inside the lower unit.

I wasn't thinking of anything real scientific, it's not very likely but if it looked that way to you then don't dismiss the possibility without a closer look -- see if more water drains than could have collected on the case. Look for a stream of bubbles next time you use it maybe.

It probably would've quit by now anyway.

I e-mailed Minn Kota. Let's see what their response is.

The very simple test is to remove the prop. Lower the motor and let it soak. Then raise it and see if water comes out the prop shaft or heaven forbid, anywhere else on the motor.
