2004 Regal Tachometer 4.3L gxi

Hello--on my 2004 regal 2000 with 4.3L volvo gxi, my tach is no longer working. I could have sworn it worked when I wrapped up the boat...but anyway---the digital hour meter comes on, but the rpm needle does not move from 800rpm. It doesnt drop to zero when the key is turned (but engine not started). Is this a simple problem like a loose connection somewhere?

Tach went bad or gray wire is loose. Gray is tach signal.

It seems to have power, since the digital part works.

This gray wire will read a very low voltage at idle, but will increase dramatically when the engine is revved. Commonly, a tach wire will go from a half a volt up to 3 or 4 volts. If the wire has signal, then tach is bad. If no signal, gotta go back to the engine.

Same thing happened to my 04 Caravelle. I found a new matching tach guage on Ebay and swapped it out. Some companies depending on who made your guage will also repair it if you send it to them.

Philster---where does this wire connect at the engine? It is fuel injected
