some history first. I replaced the motor about 4 years ago. At that time I put all new wires, plugs, distributor cap and rotor in. It has been running flawlessly every since until.... Last weekend (the first time I really ran it this year) I sprung a leak in the recirculating pump. The kids noticed it cause there was warm water in the cuddy, just to give you an idea of how much water was leaking. The water came out of the circulating pump, hit the belts and sprayed everywhere. Also that day, my choke stuck on and was obviously running very rich. While limping it back to the dock I started to notice a miss at idle. This week I replaced the circulating pump and the choke. Took it out and had an intermittant miss when really getting into the throttle and at WOT. I replaced the plugs, thinking I may have fouled one due to the choke being on all day. That seemed to clean up the miss at every RPM except for WOT. I still have plenty of power and can get to 4800rpm like always, but once there, it starts missing and maybe even popping. I described it to the local marina mechanic and he thinks its my thunderbolt IV ignition amplifier. Those things are like $350! I suppose I should try the coil and cap first, but I hate to just throw money at it. i found a troubleshooting test for the ignition, but it assumes you have no spark at all. I'm just wondering if the warm engine spray over the motor steamed the cap or fried the spark box.
Any ideas?
Thanks
