I have an 88 Yamaha 70 HP. Been running fine all season. Today, had it about 3/4 throttle and it just lost all power. It will idle and run at low RPM's great. Will not shoot out of the hole. Killed it and let it set for a few minutes. Shot me out of the hole and ran fine for a couple of minutes then did the same thing. Could this be a coil pack? Had the carbs rebuilt last summer by a yamaha dealer. Been reading post about cleaning carbs and replacing fuel pump. What do you think? Carbs? fuel pump? coil?

Check your alarm system to make sure it is functioning properly.
Sounds like you motor is going into safe mode for overheat or other problem and your alarm is not letting you know with the buzzer

I had a similar fault on my P60 1992. Just had the whole thing in bit only to find a broken wire on the coil pack. i thought thios would have caused a serious misfire but seamed to run ok. Check your resistance across all coil packs that will give you a rough indication

cheers

Sounds like fuel delivery problem, check gas tank vent, pick-up tube, tank fittings, primer bulb, quick disconnect on motor cowl, fuel pump, fuel filter, drain each carb to check for water or debris. If all is O.K. on those then carbs may need cleaning. Good luck and let us know what you find!
