hey guys, new to this forum. i am an avid tournament bass fisherman and i just inherited a 17' Monark bass boat with a 115 Merc. from a customer in exchange for a invoice he could not pay. i only had about $1500.00 in the deal so i figured i would take the boat and fix it up for my son who is in college. the Merc. runs fine however this guy took it on himself to rewire everything on the boat it is evident that he could not figure out how to use the livewell system as he has installed 3 aftermarket bilge pumps in the boat one of which is in the livewell. the boat is full of patchwork wiring and alligator clips etc. and this is something i cant stand! does anybody know how i could get a wiring diagram or some type of paperwork to replace the wiring as it was from the factory. the rest of the boat is in perfect shape and i want to make the little boat like new before giving to my son.

First, you may want to contact Monark up in Indiana. Give them the HIN and they should be able to give you a relatively useful description of how your boat is wired/plumbed...

I mean, I, and many others here, can tell how to wire the boat so that it's done the way you want, but I'm sure you'd pretty much like to put her back in the condition, electrically, that she was in when she was new. See what Monark has to say...

Actually, our ways would be better, but it would entail some money and some know how...

Her's what one of my helms looks like when it's done...

Google "marine wiring" & you'll find many good sources of info, some with photos & schematics. Also search the restoration forum on this site. When it's time to buy materials this site is one of the best. You need to use tinned copper wire, stranded if possible, unless you really enjoy doing the work. Regular copper wire will corrode pretty quickly in a marine environment & you'll get to do it all over in just a few years.
