We have a 1999 Maxum 2100SR with the 305 Alpha 1 Mercrusier. The control is the Quicksilver 3000.

Once I have been going forward or reverse, when I move the control to the neutral position the drive does not always go into neutral. But if I rock it from neutral to either forward or reverse it will disengage. What do I need to do to fix it? Very dangerous situation.

Greg, sounds like you have a "sticky" lower shift cable. The only fix for that would be a new cable, with proper adjustment. I would check the adjustment, first, though. The procedure will be outlined in the appropriate manual in the "adults only" thread at the top of this forum.
