Newbie here, I've read alot of the prevoius post regarding the identification of the year motor based off the serial number but have yet to find the right place to look it up. Can someone please tell me what I have.
The boat is a 1996 Ski Supreme, it has a carburated 5.7 inboard mercruiser with the serial number(from tag next to starter) # F563114. I want to know the year and generation the motor is.
My reasoning is that like a dummy I let the block freeze over the winter and now after starting it and letting it run for 20 minutes or so it has water in the oil. I need to start looking for a donor block or engine but i want to know what i have so that I can start looking.
Also, is a short block from the automotive industry(tahoe, suburban, truck, etc.) the same as my mercruiser? Is that what I need to be looking for?
Thanks!
