Hi there,

I just bought my first boat and am wondering what kind of boat this is. Obviously its a 15 foot fishing boat. I go the the whole set up for a great price and the motor works fine and the trailer is in great shape but I don't know what kind of boat it is.

Here are all of the pics that I have of it for now. It needs new seats and a cleaning but other than that its tight.

Well, I don't have a clue, but here are a couple of ideas:
1- Look for the USCG plate on the transom.
2- When you go to change the registration to your name, the Probate should have what it is.
3- Look on Ebay. I have seen boats like this listed there. Maybe someone has one for sale and knows what it is.:D

Well it's a 1975ish Johnson. Good motor. No idea on the boat. Congrats. Looks like a pretty good fishing boat.

My dad had an engine like that, take real good care of the fuel tanks, the motor pressurizes the tank to feed the engine. As far as I know there is no fuel pump in the motor.

Looks like a lot of oil around the prop. My motor was showing oil there and it turned out to be bad seals on the prop shaft. You may want to look into it. I just had my lower unit removed and all seals, o-rings and the impeller changed. Also changed a bearing I believe. Best $200 i could have spent in piece of mind since I had no idea what the previous owner did to the motor.

Incorrect. That motor is nowhere near old enough to require pressure tanks.

I agree 100%...the fact that there is only one line running from the tank to the motor means there is no air line, just the fuel line.

That OB has an internal fuel pump.

Yep the motor is a '75 Johnson. I paid 600 bucks for the whole set up. Needs new seats and I can rebuild the lower unit myself. My aunt has a 72 or 73 15hp Johnson and I watched my dad rebuilt it years ago. Time to catch some lunkers!!

Turns out the boat is a 1976 Lund Fiberglass. Didn't think it was that old but hay it floats and runs.:D

Going to get a few new seats today and wash it out. Have to get the registration changed over before I take it out.

that unburned oil on the gearcase indicates a running issue.
good engines but the gearcase is the weak link.
if it idles bad fix the idle. they dont like high idle speed shifting and check the gearlube after each use.
that case liked to leak and parts for it are outrageous now.
