Bigger Wake Needed Please

We have a 1991 Supra Comp and are wanting to get ideas on how to create a larger wake for wakeboarding....

How much weight do you typically carry in the boat? If you want a bigger weight you essentially want to push the boat further into the water. You can either bring a long a few more people when you head out or add some ballast. Yep, adding weight will help. I personnally wouldn't add anyhting but water weight. Cement, sand or metal wont float if ever the boat get's swamped therefore sinking it and you can be guaranteed insurance wont cover it if they realise what happened. Water weight, in most extreme cases, will float, meaning you wont lose you're boat if an accident like a swamping happens.

I add anywhere from 250 to 750lbs on my bowrider, depending on how many people we are.

Somebody told me that whaletails make alot of wake, if you adjust your trim properly does anybody know if this is true?

Somebody told you a whale of a tale alright.

Moving the water will make the wake. More boat in the water will move more water. More weight in the boat will put more boat in the water.

Whale tail might slightly alter the shape, but I'd be surprised if it did much more than that.

they may have confused a whale tale with a wedge. Some real wake boats have a wedge that drops down off the transom. As the wedge catches water it pulls the back of the boat down and creates a much bigger wake. THey will only work on direct or v-drive style boats. A whale tail goes on the outdrive of an I/O or outboard setup and works to raise the boat up on plane faster and increase stability.

malibu created the wedge in the late 90's to 'replace' the need for weight. At that time people were filling their boats w/fat sac's. Now wakeboard boats have built in water balast tanks to add weight. I've heard mixed opinions on the wedge. I'd just get more people in the boat or the fat sac or both. I've seen a fat sac thats shaped like a love seat you can face backwards in the stern of the boat. pretty cool. You may need to add weight to the bow if you get a big fat sac in the stern. they sell different sizes to accommodate your boats layout.

I have a question about using fat sac's, especially after looking at their site. If your boat is rated for say 6 people 900 lbs, isnt putting in 750 or 1500 lbs of ballast out of the question?

And excuse me if this is a dumb question, im a total newb.

The 900 lb rating will be the total weight for people, gas and other gear. It may be a state violation to exceed that limit. http://www.boat-ed.com/

Even if it is not you increase the chance of being swamped as the boat will be running much lower and decrease the maneuverability of your boat.

Yes. If your boat is rated for 900 lbs capacity.
1500 lbs of ballast (and no people) is 600 lbs over your legal limit.
