Re: Mariner Magnum II What yr and hp?

My research said '88 also but nowhere is there a 125hp Magnum II of any year. Here's the pics of the engine covers. Chrome over green decals. This motor was put on a Glastron CVX-16. Maybe the boat was not rated above 125hp and the previous owner put on these decals. They look original. The Magnum II/XR4 was orig. rated at 175hp then derated to 150hp. Wow, a 175 on a 16' boat!!?!

Thanks

Re: Mariner Magnum II What yr and hp?

Thanks. Was going crazy finding info on a "125hp" Magnum II. Any good tips on this engine?? The oil injection was alreany removed and it looks like there was already some engine work done and maybe a new lower unit. Got it to start up right away with fresh gas. No noises or other. Will ck compression when it stops raining. The Glastron CVX16 needs alot of work and don'twant to waste time and money if the motor needs thousands. I think this motor is way to much for this boat but it seems many do it and more. Can't wait to get it on the water!!

Re: Mariner Magnum II What yr and hp?

That motor runs right at the upper limit for 150 hp rating right out of the crate. It originally had a small bore LU, making it even slicker going through the water. It's a real screamer for sure. For hop up, it is limited by vertical reeds and port timing. Upping compression and fuel octane a bit will gain 10 hp or so. Removing the timing module and retiming will make it run solid at 6 grand instead of backing off, and it will be comfortable with that.

I own an XR4, and I love it.
