Re: Hydrolocking Mercruiser 4.3L

I was thinking the exhaust manifolds might be leaking into the cylinders while it was sitting for periods of time so i tried draining them before letting it sit but it would still hydrolock after sitting for a couple weeks or so im wondering if might be something else or if maybe there is still some water left in them after draining.

They need to be replaced, not drained

open cooling system? unless you have a crack in your block, where else could it be coming from?

Re: Hydrolocking Mercruiser 4.3L

I had a water leak a couple years ago and a hydro lock. When i tried starting the engine, it snapped the starter bolt. Had to remove the engine to replace it. Did a complete overall, and thought the water leak was corrected. Today I just snapped another starter bolt. but there was no sign of water leak yet

However it did have a grinding sound when I started it but then would start and run fine but half way through the day, the starter just started spinning and I had to be towed home.

Any ideas what else might cause this starter problem?

This would be better served by starting a new thread...
