Hi!!
Well my electric shift works both ways, But if you try to get past a crawl or around 2000rpm it will kick out and ill have to put it into nutural and it will reangage when you put it into forward again, it works great for trolling. LOL!!
Im useing a type C gearlube , And i also have over 12 volts on green and on blue.
If you could help out on this that would be great.
this may be the problem but im not sure, if the gear lube is not full full could that make the difference, I dont think so but it wouldnt be the first time i was wrong.
thank You

Hm.m.m.m, well first I would suspect the prop hub instead of the electric shift. However, you say you have to put it in neutral before it will work again. That confuses the issue.

Still, before you do anything, check the prop hub. Make a mark on the plastic prop cone and another on the prop itself, aligned with the first one. Run the motor till the suspected slippage occurs. Then stop and check the marks. If they are no longer aligned, the prop slipped.

If it isn't the prop, and you have 12V at the green wire, it is either the wire going down to the lower unit, or a bad clutch spring/hub in the lower unit. Either one is bad news.

I assume you don't have a short shaft motor on a long shaft boat, right? And you aren't running in weeds, right?

in forward gear there should be no voltage going to either wires.

i would also check the prop for a spun hub.

take the boat to the launch on a not busy day. use marker or something to draw a line across the prop, mark the hub and the prop itself. with the boat strapped to the trailer back in to the water and give the boat some throttle IN GEAR. then pull it out and see if your line matches, or they are in different spots.

.

Sorry, but that is INCORRECT! This is an Electramatic shift, not Hydro-Electric shift. Totally different systems. There should be 12V on green when in forward, and 12V on blue when in reverse. Zero in neutral. 12V on both wires at the same time will destroy it.

Wa,a,,ay,y,y, much more to it than that. If you want to see what's in there, go to http://shop.evinrude.com/ and navigate to the 1968 85hp Electric shift model (that's as far back as the website goes). But it is the same lower unit.
