I cannot find a carb rebuild kit (with a float) that?s compatible with a 1956 Evinrude 3hp Lightwin. The float needs to be replaced.

I also found some posts which mention a ?clip? (small spring) that is attached to the needle? My needle does not have this spring, is this spring necessary for the carb to function properly? If so, could someone briefly mention how to install it correctly?

You have to get a carb kit from an Evinrude dealer. It will have a new ethanol-proof float. It will also have the new float valve with the clip. The new needle will have a soft tip and the clip is necessary to drag the soft tip off the seat.

I take it this cannot be bought from iboats/OMC?

I really want to avoid dumping allot of money into this engine. If possible, I prefer to stay away from dealers, who will charge me full MSRP + some...

Re: 1956 Evinrude 3hp Lightwin Carb Float

Just bought a carb kit and an impeller.

My carb did not have a needle spring when I took it apart. Also, the carb kit instructions do not show (or mention) how to install the needle spring.

Does anyone have a picture showing how these springs are attached to the needle and float?
