Need to replace two AQ131D 2.3L cylinder heads. The rear exhaust ports have cratered out. I have heard that I can use Volvo automotive heads. Does anybody know from what vehicle I can use the heads from. If I order two rebuilt ones, what parts would I need to replace. Would I have to use my same cams. Are the valves and lifters from an automotive head adequate and compatible? Can I just use an automotive fel-pro head gasket? Anything else I would need to know about? Thanks again

Marine and auto valves and lifters are the same. If the felpro head gasket is brass or composit, you can use it. A steel head gasket will rust out quickly. If you can find a head from an auto version of your engine, it will work. Auto and marine cams are different. A truck cam is similar. Sorry, I don't know which auto engine is basically the same as yours. Most Volvo-Penta and Mercruiser engines are basically GM engines modified for marine use (different cams, freeze-out plugs, and head gaskets). However, Mercruiser (and possibly Volvo) did use some engine which were only for marine use or stationary use, such as a generator. Someone else with more knowledge may pipe in to help you on that. Good luck. Hy

Yes, an auto head will work. Use your old camshaft.

Thank you for the reply. Will take head to local parts/machine shop and see if they can help me identify an auto head. Thanks again!!!
