Anyone know where I can get a ski tow bar for a pontoon boat. I know I can get one from the manufacturer but they are pretty expensive.

Thanks

You can have a local welding shop fabricate one using stainless steel, but I don't think there will be a big savings.

Somewhere in here there is a really good thread about using eyebolts or U bolts in the transom. I'm going to go that route myself, I haven't been able to find an inexpensive ski tower and I have read that they don't do well for tubes.

We picked up our new Party Barge 20 yesterday. When I asked the question about U-bolts in the transum, he thought it would be OK, but suggested I use the eyes in the back of the pontoons.

This came from a Tracker service guy. Life time warranty on the welds he tells me. Looks like thats the route I'm taking!

Re: ski tow bar

I'm picking up my party barge 19 ft in a couple of days, and when I asked about towing a tube, and if I needed to add anything to the boat to do so, the dealer answered "no, that's what the eyes in the back of the pontoons are for."

Ditto. I use the lift eyes on mine with the blessing of the local Tracker dealer.

Not sure what you've got for a motor - I have a 60 hp Bigfoot on my 21' Sun Tracker and can tell you that I get a LOT of rope drag in the water using the eye holes in the back of the tubes. If you could find a way to get the rope up and out of the water I think you'd have a much happier tubing experience for all involved. Does it work doing it this way? Yes, but it's certainly not ideal.

Haven't had that problem with mine. 90 horse on a 21 footer. I have heard others complain about it though.

Re: ski tow bar

The mayor is right. I searched everywhere for something that would work. Overtons makes a heavy duty 16 foot rope that you can hook to the toon eyebolts however.....When your tube carries to the side it will rub your motor..or at least it did mine. I looked everywhere for a manufacturer of these ski bars that would lift it out of the water. I ended up springing for the tracker made bar. 557 dollars. Ouch.
