Has anyone ever heard of an Arrowhead boat? I came across one I got to use the windshield on my TM and was wondering about the history. I will be posting pics shortly. It has an old rude on it looks to be from the 50's.
Let me know what you come up with.

Thanks,

OK so here are the pics. There is a serial number on the motor but I cannot see it very well. Once the engine is off I will be able to get closer. There is a plack on the front dash that states Kennadale Texas Arrowhead. There is nothing that comes up that I can find. Let me know what you guys think.

Re: Arrowhead Boat

I cannot find anything about this boat. fiberglassics, google, nothing at all. Any ideas would be appreciated. I feel it may be a local mfg co, still looks pretty cool.

My son has taken an interest in fixing it up. I told him he has the whole summer to work on it. we will start taking the motor and hardware off. I do not think he realized how much work this will take. we can do it right and have it last a while or half way for a couple of years. It seems to have the major things on it but I am pretty sure the transom and stringers have to be replaced but have not checked them out yet.

Re: Arrowhead Boat

ok so here is the boat I brought in today. Not sure what the brace on the bow is for. It has Traveler on the stering wheel, not sure if that helps. I did some research on the Gale engine and found out it is similar to a rude and Johnson. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I need to talk to TX Parks and see if they can shed some like. Hope they do not give me a hassle about a bill of sale for a title.

Re: Arrowhead Boat

ok so while I am waiting to find out what type of boats these are a couple of questions have risen.

*These have been sitting in a field for 10 plus years, the floors seem pretty sturdy.......yes I drained alot of water out of them. It would be best to replace stringers floor etc correct?
*If and when I replace the floors do I really need to take the cap off? The Arrowhead does not look like it will come off. The boat appears to be one piece.
*With the chips in the gelcoat, can I fill it with resin or does it have to be gelcoat? I know with the spider cracks I can sand and then use resin but there are some minor chips in the gelcoat I was wanting to fill.

I appreciate your help.

Re: Arrowhead Boat

ok I have an update. I went to TPWD and pulled the title information. The Arrowhead is titled as a 1959 Arrow Glass and the other is a 1966 Corvair. Now begins the wonderful experience of getting a title because...........wait for it....the person who sold it to me is not on the title.

Just did that, the new old owner never changed the title

Don't ask don't tell - DMV - just "I bought from the guy on the title"

Well I am sending a certified letter to the previous owners and a letter to my nice lady at the TPWD. I am hoping to get the title issues resolved soon. I was actually hoping to be rid of these boats once I get the windshield off but I think I found a couple more projects.

Re: Arrowhead Boat

I heard back from my nice lady at the TPWD and she told me the forms and procedures I needed to go through and I am on my way, (with fingers crossed)>
My son and I took the fat fifty off the Arrow Glass and have it on a stand. We were going to replace the transom but found out it has a curve on it. I would never be able to match it........we figured the transom is good the way it is. We will go ahead and try to reinforce it some with metal or wood because the engine does not fit well.

I need to get the grinder out and start with the stringers and seat replacement. I am not going to invest any money in these until I get the titles on the boats.

The Arrow Glass looks like the deck will not come off because they appear to be glued together. I have not heard of that before, any ideas.

Re: Arrowhead Boat

For those of you interested........which means everyone of course, my lovely wife found out what the brace was for on the Corvaire. It was for assisting ladies as they walked the bow. Back in the day they wore dresses etc to the lake and needed assistance getting in and out.

That is the best explaination I have heard so far.

We pulled the fat fifty off and my son is ready to attack the boat. We decided to leave the transom alone. It appears to be alright and sturdy and most of all it has a curve in it that I do not think I could possibly duplicate. we are going to reinforce it with some more plywood because the engine clamps need more wood to be secured.

Re: Arrowhead Boat

Well we got the boat flipped over. There are some concerns about the keel. there is no wood for the keel, it is used to drain the inside. Is this normal? There are quite a few deep gashes on the bottom, particularly on the keel. I do not think they are going all the way through but was wondering what is the best way to repair these.

I am also wondering the best way to paint the gelcoat, I was going to use rustoleum after primering. I have used it on my other boat and it seems to be doing fine.
