Why should the US Government foot the bill for over seeing the steroid usage/testing in Pro sports. Burns my a$$ to see our tax dollars spent policing those big money organizations. Seems they should have to reimburse the government for the cost incurred to straighten their a$$e$ out.

Because if your elected officials (YOU)want to make the rules, then they (YOU) should pay to enforce them.....JK

Don't think professional sports rules or player's behavior are any of Congress' business.

If those jocks want to blow their credibility with the fans, so be it, so long as they don't violate existing substance abuse laws.

I agree it is just grandstanding to get media coverage.

I don't know.

The problem is not with the pro athletes, but all the high school kids that think that is what they need to do to make the grade. If they get serious about banning them, maybe the kids won't feel they have to do them, because "Everyone else is"

Have you ever been to a Rite Aid drug store? They have an entire section of "performance enhancing" supplements. I have no idea what is in some of these things, but I doubt it is regulated by the FDA, and is downright scary, IMO.

I guess this is your way of saying that this issue should be dealt with by the Federal Government, huh PW?

Have the States become so bereaft of reason and power that it has to come to this. Well I guess this is right up your alley. Emasculate the Republic, All power to the Central Authority. The people can't evacuate their own and they can't control drug use in their own sports teams. It is a sorry day that you and yours are bringing on this Glorious Experiment.

Next thing you know, we'll have the 'popular vote'.

The reason that the Federal Government is involved in pro sports is that they receive an exemption from Federal Antitrust laws.

Basically the threat is that you better play nice or we'll remove the exemption which means that Boomer and I could instantly start playing the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (is there a Graemlin for puking?) with our newly formed Los Angeles Vancouverites of Iboats team ;)

Although I am usually vehemently against Federal oversite of private business, in this case I believe it is necessary to retain what I consider is a National Treasure and in the public's interest. Baseball and the Major League Player's Assoc. don't have the common sense to fix this on their own and probably need a little motivation . . . My .02

I guess I don't understand your argument, Boom. The FDA is specifically a federal agency, or do you really feel we ought to have a drug free for all in the individual states?

And what in the world does this have to do with an evacuation plan, or the electoral college?

Are you drinking that Columbia River water that passes right thru the Hanford nuclear reservation again?

I have never agreed with pw before but there is always a first time. Many children look up to the sport "heros" and want to emulate them. As most kids do, I as a kid wanted to play pro baseball. Used to play every night and all weekend. I knew that I never stood a chance but the dream was still there. Kids look up to these athletes and will do what they do to try to get to be a pro. You would be supprised how many high school students are using steroids because of the professional athletes.

The pro team owners will not stop their players from using steriods because it causes more home runs and that means more money. The penalty should be a long suspension for the first offence and getting kicked out of the sport for the secone offence, that will put a stop to it.
