I was curious if anyone knows how to remove the pick up coil on a 3.0 LX merc.
Just by looking at it the part it's under looks pressed in. Do I need a puller of some sort or will it just lift up by prying on the sides.

I think it's the timer core that needs to come out??

I don't wanna break anything so I wanted to ask first. My Seloc manual tells me realease the locking tab and release the pick up coil. Not sure what they mean by the locking tab since there is no illustration.

Why don't you use that Seloc for a knee pad as it was intended? For a manual, go up to the adults only sticky (first post in this forum) and download the OEM service manual for your engine. #13 is the one you want.

Please.. don't take that the wrong way, but... Having the Seloc manual and downloading the Mercruiser manual in the Adults only section at the top of this forum, there is NIGHT and DAY between the two. Don't get me wrong I have not burned my Seloc, but definately refer to the original much more now that I have it

Re: 96 Merc 3.0 LX Pick coil removal

Thanks for the tips guys. I did go to the adult section and found the right manual. Im tried to find something on the removal of the pick up coil but it just says the same thing as the Seloc. replace does'nt give instructions on HOW to replace it. From looking at a blown up picture of the distributor, I'm guessing that I need to remove the distributor and then it slides down. I was hjoping to avoid that but if it has to be done, so be it.

Thanks again
