who knows Mercs?

i am prospecting a 1961 mercury 300E. I don't know anything about old mercury's. I'm more of a J/E guy, anyways, what is the difference between a merc300 and a merc350? besides the hp difference :p Also does this have the modern tilt tube?

theres not much difference and it might have the tube you will just have to look sometimes people have already changed them over

Mercs of that era often had a tilt tube, BUT it was smaller diameter than modern ones as it was made to accomodate the Mercury branded Ride-Guide steering.

The 4-cylinder Merc 300 and 350 were both based on the 40-cube powerhead. Not much difference, although the 300 is rated at 35hp and the 350 at 40hp. Very unlikely you'd notice much of a performance difference between the two...
