I have searched on here and found the same problem but no solution. I am installing a new head unit and speakers on my boat. Before I install them I hooked up the power and memory wires from my head unit to an inline fuse (10amp) direct to the battery. I have the ground wire from the head unit direct to the neg terminal. My head unit display flashes on and off. Its not like its turning off and on, I changed the volume in the second its was on, then the next time (a second later) it was set at the same volume.

Here is the thread that looks like the same problem.

Any help would be great!!! Thanks!!!

Welcome to iboats!

It sounds like the amp is overloading at high power, causing the thermal protector to cut the power. Are the speakers of the proper impedance and wired correctly?

Yes I have doubled checked them. I even hooked up another pair to act as rears. I am thinking it might be a gauge problem. Right now I have 14 gauge from the batt and neg terminals.

Is there a reset switch on it? First use sometimes requires pushing & holding that reset button for a second or two to set everything to factory defaults.

What makes & models of device and speakers? How many speakers?

Too many speakers connected to the same pair of wires will cause an impedance mismatch that looks like a short to the amp section. The device will shut down to protect itself.

For example, two 4-ohm speakers connected to the same pair of wires will present a 2-ohm load. Is the device rated to work into a 2-ohm load?

Re: head unit flashing on and off please help!

I looked in the manual and I can not find where there is a reset button. Here is my set up...
Pioneer DEH-1200MP Head Unit
Kicker KS400 Speakers (Pair)

I am only running two speakers. The are directly hooked up to the speaker leads on the back of the unit. I am only using the front left and front right leads. I have double checked pos to pos and neg to neg.

I was running 14 gauge wire to the pos and neg terminal on my batt. I just went and got some 8 gauge and ran it and same problem. It goes red/yellow to 8 gauge to a inline fuse (12 gauge?) direct to pos terminal. The ground goes direct to neg terminal.

When I disconnect one speaker I can turn it up a little higher.

I have this all laid out on the back of my boat to test it before install. The speakers are just sitting (not in a box) on my boat.

Thanks so much for your help!

Do you have a fully charged battery? Electronics generally include over and under voltage protection circuits.

Looks like it's time to call Pioneer for service.

Does it have a detachable face? If so, pull the face and look on the left side. That's where the reset button usually is. Look for a small one that's hard to push with your finger. If it doesn't have one you can usually reset a HU by simply pulling the plug from the back and leaving it out for a few seconds.
