I have 1960 10hp Evinrude motor that I just got today. I took it out on the lake and it started right away. It ran great and got my aluminum boat across the lake. I stopped and when I went to start it up again it started up but the motor wouldn't move. I tried putting it in neutral to forward but it just stayed started and wouldn't move. Do you know what this could be? Thanks.

2 things, pull the prop cone off - remove cottor pin and unscrew it (the cone) and inspect the shear pin, bet it's broken or someone put something else in it's place that broke, or , shift linkage came undone in which case you will need to drop the lower unit to inspect. 3rd thing could be that the PO had the phillips shift screw out and didn't put it back in properly. Check the shear pin first.

Id say sheer pin on the prop shaft.

It is supposed to be 3/16" diameter stainless steel. If somebody put something else in there, it probably just wore itself in two.

How do I get the prop cone off? Do I just pull it off or do I have to unsrew something? Do I just leave the propeller on? Also is the shear pin easy to find?

They unscrew, counter clockwise.

Alright, thanks. I did that and the shear pin was broke into three pieces. I was able to find another one and now it works good.
