9.5 problems

I have a 70's modle 9.5 the carb was cloged so I did a rebuild and was running fine in my barelle when I launched at the lake it was hard to start but evetually did I got to where I was going and killed it done that couple of time with no problem the last time it started fine but I put the throtel handle in low to get to the ramp and it died it took about 45 mins to get it running what could cause that

Welcome to iboats!

Did you check the fuel pump? How are the points? Are you positive both cylinder's are firing?

One an outboard runs "fine" in a barrel it could be only running on a single cylinder.

Go back and recheck your carb work too.

It has a new fuel pump. Both cylinders are fireing I haven't checked the points. I tried to adjust the fuel air mix but I don't know if it is set right. How dow you check the points and how do you set the fuel air mix

I put new fuel pump on don't know how to check points both cylinders are fireing.a mechanice told me on a old motor like this one I should double up on the oil to gas I put another 16oz into my 6 gallon tank that's on top of the first 16oz could that be the problem

my 9.5 does NOT like to run any richer than 50:1 in fact I go a little light on the oil, your mileage may vary.
