Cannot figure this one out....
Squeeze primer ball until firm, press in choke and start engine. Warms up fine @ high idle. Drop it down to reg idle and a minute later and the motor begins to stumble more and more and eventually dies. Squeeze the ball and it is empty. If I can catch it early enough stumbling, I can go to fast idle and let the motor recover and then the same thing happens a minute later. If I start the engine and immediately get to higher RPMs the motor will run fine the entire time (any rpm range while still planing). Get back into the creek to idle and the motor will die out 60 sec later. Check the primer ball - empty again. Assume its some sort of vacuum leak that prevents more fuel from being pumped in, so every time I re-squeeze the primer ball and idle around all its doing is using the fuel I just squeezed in.
Information I know:
I have tried this with two bulbs, same symptoms with both
I would assume if it were a tank venting issue there would be problems while @ higher RPMs. I have also run with the fuel cap off and same thing happens.
The plastic fuel filter will not get more than 1/2 full. I don't know of any way to bleed the air out. Is this normal? I took the filter off and can blow air through both directions freely- assume its not clogged?
I have a feeling the VRO might be the issue. I currently premix fuel and have the oil line capped off and sealed. I'm considering removing the pump and using a reg fuel pump, are there any downsides? Because the primer ball gets empty, I assumed it wasn't an issue with carb settings - am I wrong?
Any help would be appreciated.
