Mirrocraft max hp thoughts

Looking at a 14' with a 64" beam Mirrocraft deep fisherman. It has no motor but looks pretty good. The transom has been raised and I want run a 35 hp tiller 20" that I have but don't want to overpower it or be looking at the bow all day. It is rated for a 25 with the 15" transom. Any experience with these boats?

Stick with the rated HP as max. Do not exceed. Many, many reasons for this.

Agree. Max HP ratings involve a lot more than just transom height/strength/etc.

I had one of those boats. It ran fine with an 18, but was overpowered when I put a 25 on it. If you use a long shaft motor, better be sure the previous owner did a sound job on the transom.

Thanks for the input guys! Guess I better look for a bigger boat then. I like my Lowe Big Jon that I have now but I want something I can take out in the salt a little more.
