Do anyone have any experience dealing with a hydrofoil on a small outboard? I am having a hard time getting my 16 foot jon with a 9.9 to plane off. The reviews I read on the product weren't good. A lot of people claim the "piece of plastic junk" breaks off. Anyone, anyone, anyone????????

Re: Stingray Hydrofoil

I have one on a larger boat & am satified with it's performance. It's been on there for 20 years & I've seen no problems with my stingray "breaking off". They seem to be very durable, as it looks just like the day it was installed except for a little fading from the sun.

I have this stingray on mine. Its a newer one solved all my troubles With no draw backs. Was playing around with a couple of new props one day at the lake. I removed the stingray when playing around.put it back on right away. been on about 3 years.

Re: Stingray Hydrofoil

My concern is using one with a small motor like a 9.9. The boat runs 18 mph by myself. With a second person and sometimes a dog, it slows to 15 mph. Will I lose speed with the hydrofoil? I am not too concerned with speed but I don't want a 10 mile an hour boat either.

Yeah I have no idea what you will experience on a smaller motor. I didnt know what I was going to be in for but it sure made a new boat out of mine no drawbacks at all.Top end was the same rpms did not change just got on plane like instanly and the boat handeled bettter at higher speed turns. Good luck.

I don't like the hydrofoils on larger motors, but I had one of those 5hp Briggs & Stratton motors on a 12' flat bottom and gained 4mph GPS and it actually would plane at WOT with the foil.

Re: Stingray Hydrofoil

I also have a jack plate on the boat and I am thinking that may be causing my problems too. The previous owner had a 40 horse that he would use also. I am assuming that is why he had the jackplate to begin with. I plan on removing the jack plate and fastening the motor directly to the boat like normal. I that doesn't help it plane off I will try the hydrofoil. Could the problem be the jackplate to begin with? A jack plate on a 9.9? Too small of a motor?
