I have a long shafet Evinrude that I would like to chang to a short shaft My motor is a 6hp Model 6805B. I can buy a 1963 year lower unit Evinrude short shaft off of a model 5302A. Does anyone know if it will fit my 6hp? A quick response would be great, as I need to let person know as soon as I can.

Re: Will lower unit fit my Evinrude?

I have a 63 on my 76 right now. so yes.

however the internals are different. as is the prop and prop shaft. As well as the drive shaft. (will still fit into your powerhead)

your shaft attached directly to the pinion gear in the gear case.
the 63 has some kind of shock absorber/adapter thing.

Your prop will NOT work on it.

I have a prop I'll trade you if you wind up buying it.

The shift rod in the gear case may be different, I don't remember correctly. but the old one will swap over if you feel like tearing into the lower (easy)
