Re: 1956 Evinrude Bigtwin 30hp

there were about 4 layers of paint I had to take off the mounts to the windshield were corroded and most were broken so I am working on machining some new ones for it. I may do white and red inspired by yours...not finalized though so if anyone has any suggestions on a sweet color scheme...

Re: 1956 Evinrude Bigtwin 30hp

i also have an evinrude big twin 30 and i can tell ya that it will start on the 1st pull everytime,,,but while i was out today i noticed it was getting hot so i shut her down and spit on the cyl head and it was boiling,,,if i'm not mistaken it should not boil at all and also on the fuel fitting,u can bypass it but when ur done just leave the gas cap loose or it will build pressure and come out the carb overflow and also flood the motor,,,but back to the water pump,,,i just had all new seals installed by a tech and he said the water pump was good,,,but y is it gettin hot,,is there a therm00stat in it,and also is there a way to check if there is water in the head,,is there a head drain hole cause if not then how would u drain the water for the winter season,,,,also please email me at szymczak46@yahoo.com cause i never get my replys in the mail thanks everyone

Re: 1956 Evinrude Bigtwin 30hp

i have a 56 bigtwin and i dont mind pulling it,if its setup right and u have a clue of what ur doing then it should start easily, mine always runs on the first pull and also it is a mean runnin motor, alot of power and dont mind to idle,,,also i run mine at 32-1 with tcw-3 oil and it runs flawless also remember that the richer u mix it then the worst it will be on gas,,,mine is not to bad on fuel actually,,,and dont smoke like a train and dont get hot,,and the plugs are a nice medium brown color,,,the problem i'm having is it skipping a tooth in the gear case,,,just had seals installed and still got filled with water,,will this cause it to jump outta gear

Re: 1956 Evinrude Bigtwin 30hp

i just overhauled mine, it's a 56' 30 hp with the pull starter. it's a bastard trying to get it on the boat and it's drinks gas like i drink beer...

it's starts first pull every time, so it's not bad on the arms. i pushed my 14ft. aluminum v-hull with it for about 30mins at WOT, and it drank a gallon of gas. boat, motor, and people might weigh in at 800lbs.

just my luck! i spun the prop and the test session was over....

there is no thermostat on my motor...
