Re: 98 7.4 mpi ???

When I see 24' plus deep V sport boats, they usually have the 496 MAG @ 375 HP or the 496 MAG High Output @ 425 HP. I don't see many 454's in performance boats of 24-26'. It's usually the 496 (375 or 425 HP)... and for a while it was the 502 @ 415 HP....

454 = 7.4 liters
496 = 8.1 liters
502 = 8.2 liters

That's really 496/502 territory.

Good luck and check back as you make progress!

Re: 98 7.4 mpi ???

The 330 HP 7.4 is rated at 300HP at the propshaft and 330HP at the crankshaft. The 310 HP 7.4 is rated at 310HP at the propshaft and 340HP at the crankshaft. The 98 7.4 MPI should have 310HP at the propshaft. It's not a high performance engine, it's a truck engine that works very well in a heavy boat.

The 454 MAG is considerd by many to be superior to the 496 MAG and even the 496 MAG HO because it has high performance parts that were never used on any 496, and a shorter stroke that allows for higher revs without excessive stress and wear.

If I were shopping for a performance boat, I'd look for a 502 in any flavor or a 454MAG.
