Chevy 350 OMC Cobra drive. I was clipping along and opened her up a little and all of a sudden rpms shot up and she felt like it was in neutral. Brought the throttle back down to an idle and she was still moving gave it some more and it started to pick up but then started slipping bad again. There was no grinding, or no increase in temp. Is this what is called a "spun prop"? I was able to get back in after a few hours with a max speed of 4mph. The prop didnt hit anything... Could it just spin or could this be another issue?

I'm thinking you may need to check the coupler.

if the driveshaft is not turning the waterpump is not turning. However, it was still turning some at low RPMs, so there was some water being pumped around. So it could still be the coupler, BUT the First thing I'd do is pull the prop off and see whats up!!!!

No it just came out of nowhere and happened in a split second. I'm going to pull the prop on Saturday and pray that its the problem.

Prop Hub. Just happened to me exactly as you described. I put another prop on and problem solved. Good luck
