Hi guys

On the tilt pump on the right bottom side there is a plastic plug that is leaking, have big trouble by finding/buying the right one. Some people say that i should use a metalic plug and the plastic plug is from delivery only and should be replaced asap. Where can i buy this piece?? Or do you know any company that can explaining more about the plastic VS metalic plug.

Anyone knowing what the plug is for? If you driving the boat and hitting something with the stern, would it blow of to release the oil?

Boat:
Glastron mx 175 2007 Penta engine 3.0 SXA Stern

Replacing that plug is not going to cure your problem. At present, the only repair is to replace the complete pump assembly. There are no repair parts available for it.
BUT. I just changed one that was leaking from that plug. I need to look at it again tomorrow, because your problem is not the plug, but some orings that set in grooves that those 2 bolts you removed go through.
It's a really sorry setup, and those 4 lines are another stupid idea. You have to remove those 2 bolts to get the keeper out, then the pump moves, and you can't do anything about it but replace the pump. Also, do not remove those hoses without marking where they go. There is NO information on how to reinstall them.
This is one of the worst trim systems I have ever seen. And I would never own one. Trust me, I would have no other IO but Volvo, but not an SXA.

Hi again and thanks for your answer.

Why do you think that the leaking has occurred, is it a construction fail from penta? In that case i?ll assume that if a buy a new pump its a upgraded version?

Do you know the reason why the plug even exist, why havent penta welded the hole instead of a plug?

Sorry for all this questions.

Brought that old pump home to check out. Ended up cutting the housing in half just to see what was going on.
Turns out those plugs are glued in plugs that cover the drilled passage that connects to either the trim up, or the trim down hoses. There is another plug on the opposite side as well. I stuck a small allen wrench into the passage and was able to pop the leaky plug I had off very easily.
I would contact your Volvo dealer, even if you are out of warranty, they may still cover the problem, I'm sure they are aware of the problem.
The one I just changed a couple of weeks ago looked exactly like the one I replaced. Same kind of plugs and all, and it's not a superceeded part number. Same as original.
One other note, the housing is plastic, so welding wouldn't be an option.

I have a 2007 Chapparral with the Volvo Penta drive and it uses this stupid trim pump as well. It is at the dealer right now for the same issue and this is the second time in two years.
Say what you may about the Volvo drives but their trim system is a POS. I cannot believe that they rely on a plastic insert for a hydraulic pump with so much pressure. Its frustrating.
Last year the dealer said they (Volvo) recognized there was a problem and were looking into it. When I got my boat back after 4 weeks it had the same design pump.
Fortunately I have a 5 year warranty but if it happens again, I'm selling the boat and never buying Volvo again. (That's how I'll solve the problem permanently.)

For all the poor souls that have experienced this problem (myself included). I have a 2007 gxl 205 glastron with the same pump. When it failed, I took it to a local boat mechanic in my area and he explained that this pump style was "unserviceable" and he would need to put in a new pump assembly which costs $700.00. During our discussion I was able to talk him into removing the white plug, drill & tap the hole, and finally put a small pipe plug in place. That was 3 months ago and I haven't had a problem since. I was willing to spend the $150.00 to take the chance. So far so good!!
