hey guys. doing the waterpump job on my 89 v135 cuz i had milky lower unit oil and some shavings or flakes and it looks like the water got in under the pump base possibly. im paranoid about leaks and was wondering if water could also get in around the shift shaft housing part. would it hurt it to put rtv sealant just around the shift shaft section when i put the lower unit back on. there is some corrosion in there around where the nut thing is around the shift shaft. it looks like the lower was on a salt engine before mine. i hit a rock last year and had this used one put on and it looks like the pump leaks. can someone also tell me if it damaged my gears, how will i know. it works fine now? i will never bring my motor to someone else again. im 3 for 3 on dissapointments. i have a thread in johnson or force motors section about my horror stories with a marina in alton bay, n.h.

Re: changing waterpump question.

There should be a seal for the s/shaft. Its probably not with your waterpump kit, but your dealer should have it or can get it.
