no reverse

I have an older Mercury 800 80hp, It just quit going into reverse. I unhooked the cable and tried to operate it manually it just seems to bind up and not go in reverse forward is just fine. There is no clicking or grinding of gears, it just will not go in.

Is the motor running when you are attempting to shift?

If not running, you may need to rotate the prop by hand while shifting into reverse.
