Just purchased a 1985 Sea King. It's a 15 horse, model #VWB52122 , serial# 58X3756. Not running. Soaking the carb tonight. Put in and gapped new plugs .030. Cleaned and set points .020. Sanded magnets on flywheel and heels of coils. Have some spark but wont run. I did manage to get a cough out of it this evening. Is Sierra 18-5009 the right tune up kit for this motor? Also wondering where a good place would be to get new coils if necessary. I'm hoping a good carb cleaning brings her to life. Hope I don't have a crankcase pressure issue. The cylinders both tested at 100 lbs. so I think I'm OK there.I don't have a carb rebuild kit and was wondering about a good source for that and which kit to get? It is a walbro LMB229 carb.

Re: New Chrysler /Force owner

Cleaned the carb and reassembled today. Still nothing??!! I have spark at both cylinders, but is it possible I'm not getting enough spark? I pulled the plugs after attempting to start and the top cyl. is definitely getting fuel. The lower cyl. did smell of fuel although not as much as the top. Could I have a problem with my reed valve if this engine has one? I assume it does although I'm no mechanic. I thought all 2 strokes had them in place of a valve train. Like I said earlier, I have 100 lbs. in each cylinder, new plugs, clean carb, good gas. Where should I start, new points and condensers, coil??? Thanks. Bruce

I didn't catch it in the first post.If you adjusted the points you will probably have to retime the motor.J

Thanks Jerry, I had no idea. Nor do I have any idea how to do this procedure Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again. Should I start a new thread in order to define my need for help in this area or is there a way to rename the current thread.

Can any one tell me where to get info on timing this motor. I didn't even know they could get out of time. Some one said that if I cleaned and reset the points, that I would have to reset the timing. That certainly would go a long way towards explaining why I can't get the motor to even cough.

Bruce, you might consider getting a good manual. I think the consensus, on this site, is the Clymer's manual is the one to get. You might also consider a factory service manual. I have both. For some crazy reason, I seem to be happier working on my boat than actually running it around, lol. I would love to tell you the timing procedure of your motor but I do not know. You could probably do a search on this forum and find an answer.

Re: New Chrysler /Force owner

Thanks Jay. I'm still not sure if my sea king was made by chrysler,or us marine by force. Some have said it's a 1984 chrysler leftover, but on at least one website (Discount marine I think) it comes up as US Marine by Force. I realize that the leftover Chrysler inventory could have been used by the new manufacturer(force) during this transition year. Can anyone tell me definitively who made my motor for real so I can get a manual. Thanks, Bruce

Re: New Chrysler /Force owner

The little bit of searching says that model number is a Montgomery Wards Chrysler.

I had an older Sea King 20 horse. Mid 60's that I couldn't find any info on. No model number or anything.

I took some good pics of the motor and sent then to Franze marine. He was able to point me to a general year and make. Turned out mine was a chrysler.
