Re: white smoke?

Maybe gas in tank is old?, Is it oil injected or premix? Maybe fresh gas and try the Pennzoil 100% Synthetic Outboard Oil. If oil injected, check pump, linkages for proper operation. Let us know what you find and good luck!

Its is a 2 stroke. It is also oil injected no premix i have the oil tank on motor. Im not sure how to check pump,it that the water pump? I searched forums and read that something in the water pump may do it but i dont know the impeller i think? thanks 4 the time.

Re: white smoke?

There is an oil injection pump that pumps more or less oil according to the throttle setting, you may need a repair manual for your motor but you should be able to look at the system linkages for any obvious problems that might cause your oil injection pump to get stuck in the "wide open" position. I'm most familiar with pre-mix motors, so not an expert on oil injection systems. Hopefully, one of our "oil injection guys" can give you some help here.

Re: white smoke?

Does your oil usage seem to be the same as always? 2 strokes should smoke but if it is to the point where the mosquitoes won't come within a mile that is a different story. :D Good Luck.

Re: white smoke?

I have not really ran it enuff to notice it burning alot of oil. I took it out for the 1st time yesterday and it has good power and all but just seems like more smoke than normal. There where the pee hole is for water in the very middle of motor near that hole theres a opening and im not sure what it is but when its in the water most of smoke comes out there and with just the muffler ears on it it seem to be more in the prop area. No warning lights or anything is on. i can smell some what of a oil smoke "carbon" smell also. Maybe i look for things wrong more than i should but i hate being in the Ocean with only 1 motor also lol. I checked the plugs and to me they looked fine, had alittle oil on them but pretty much clean. Thanks man

Re: white smoke?

Hi. Sounds like your oil injection system may be dumping a little more oil than necessary, and then burning off. I have an 85 Yamaha 115 2 -stroker that has the oil injection setup on it; and if I leave it in the high tilt position for any considerable amount of time, it tends to dump oil into the lower carbs. And then I end up fogging out the neighborhood when I start it up before I take it out. It may be that you have a faulty oil level sensor or injection control module (in my case, it's the module). When you remove the engine cover, do you see any oil coating any parts or pooling below the powerhead? Also, just a thought, but did you fog it before you put it into storage last season? Any performance issues, overheating, or alarms going off?

Re: white smoke?

Hi Gierhedd75,

No everything looks good under the cover. theres some oil there where i spilled it like a bp tanker :) but nothing new. yes i had the motor tilted up like you mentioned all winter and all spring . Not sure what you mean about fogging it. But when i last used the boat it ran sweet.
does it hurt it to run if the injection control module is bad? not saying mine is but being your was i was just wondering. Thanks 4 the time.

Re: white smoke?

You are suppose to fog the motor with a special fogging oil before putting up for the winter or other long period of time to protect the internals of the motor from rusting. It is best to store motors in the down position.

Re: white smoke?

yes. but keep an eye on your oil usage. If you ran this much last year you should have an idea how long you can run on your oil reservoir on a tank or two of gas. good luck! Did you by chance have someone winterize it for you? If yes, they probably fogged it for you.
